Almost in the end of two periods as a president, Mr. Lula da Silva had as a goal of his government, brings to Brazil two big events: The World Coup 2014 and The Olympic Games 2016. The announce of the two facts had helped to bring for 87% the approval for his administration in the last days of his govern and also help to elect his politic partner Dilma Rousseft as the new Brazil´s president. Discussions a side, Brazil has to stare at both events.
Of course, the hotel and the tourism industry have expressed their gratitude. However, we have a long journey ahead, just thinking about new constructions. First of all, a simple analysis about the stadiums where to open the Coup, for instance, brought a big discussion between the FIFA and the Brazilians organizers. Even thought our Country had been notorious as a birthplace of the best soccer players in the world, our stadiums are from the 60´and has no well conditions to receive a world wide event, especially to the grand opening. The new concept of stadiums is based on something similar to a big convention center, regarding space and facilities for different and simultaneous events that has to operate all year to gain its break even point. So, it´s 2010, January and we have not the place for the grand opening of The World Coup 2014. They didn’t start to build it already…
On the other hand, the hotel industry inform that has around 2 billion of Reais, (1 Real = US$1, 75) to invest in economic hotels and some new resorts. In fact, most of the main cities in Brazil need more investments in hotels, especially in economic category. These investments will bring new opportunities for several cities in this large Country for small investors, once in Brazil the real estate investments, for the hotel industry, operate as a condominium and the properties have one or more rooms in several undertaking. They have no hotels companies’ papers on stock market. They have a room.This sector will have no problem to the construction once the building construction is well advanced and have pre mould technology that make things simple.
On the other side we haven’t enough Professionals all over Country to receive the tourist that probably will come to the World Coup event. Major part of our hotel employees don’t speak English by the simple reason that countryside doesn’t receive a lot of tourists. The airport system is another point of strangulation to the public transportation. The cities where the games will take place are the Capitals of different States of Brazil. It means that the inciters will have to take trips from one and a half hours to four hours flying to watch the games, taking São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro as a reference Gate of Entrance. For the roads highway network we have the same problem. Maybe the tourist in São Paulo State, Paraná State or Rio Grande do Sul, will not have problems in their Free Way. But, Minas Gerais State and the other regions of Brazil, have no good roads. What will be?
The actual government, as well its antecessor, has afraid of private’s concessions to public services. With a Marxist mind, now transformed in a social democracy with a strong focus in the State´s Economy, the administrator from the Works Party believes that private´s money is no good to the nation even thought the State had any condition to invest in the entire sector at the same time. This concept has been one of the strong points of their campaign against their opposites. They believe that if they give the public services as a concession to private companies they are going “to sell Brazil”. It´s more than a marketing teaser. It´s a real concept of State that traverses part of the old mind of the communists that give the support do the Works Party and try to have some influence in the administration. They have to decide…
After all, how to think in Rio de Janeiro as a city to receive the Olympic Games 2016? Please, just take a look in the last news about the violence in that place. Rio has been not the Gate of Entrance in Brazil for several years. Bahia State, Ceará and other States from the Northwest have gained this demand. Rio de Janeiro is just an outlaw and violent city that will spend a lot of money from de Federal Safes to invest in the Olympic Ville and to maintain the bad guys in their homes. Could happen that the tourists and the athletes go back to their home safe. But then, a lot of money had been trough the grater. And the city will remain as poor as it is or more than ever.
